The most popular and safest way to get rid of spots is by avoiding harmful chemicals like Hydroquinone, and if you decide to use is it should be no more than 3 months (please be a wear there are tons of scientific studies on Hydroquinone and it's cancer causing side effects.

Here are a few safe and effective recommendations for dark spots and hyperpigmentation:

Retinoid

Alternatives to hydroquinone include Retin-A and Renova. They include retinoic acid, which promotes fresh, healthy skin growth by increasing cell turnover, speeding up exfoliation, and increasing cell turnover.

Retinoids have been linked to benefits in skin photoaging in scientific  studies, notably on Black skin.

It can be  extremely drying to the skin, making it more susceptible to the sun's rays. If you go with these options, be aware that it may take a few months or longer for them to work. Make sure you use sunscreen on a daily basis.

Physical Exfoliators

Using physical exfoliator is a very popular method  and has been used for centuries, one of my personal favorite is using a sugar scrub, especially the one from Fervour Amour. When this sugar scrub comes in contact with water it magically turns into a creamy scrub that moisturizes the skin in the shower. It gets better, it washes of  nicely and doesn't leave the skin greasy just soft and moisturized.

Chemical exfoliators

These are highly recommended

Chemical exfoliants use ingredients such as:

  • alpha hydroxy acid (AHA)
    • This includes product with glycolic acid, lactic acid, fruit acid complex. this AHA cleanser by Fervour Amour works  wonders. It's very gentle when compared to other AHA cleanser.
  • beta hydroxy acid (BHA)
    • When you mention BHA the first thing that comes to most people is Salicylic acid, it's very popular, this is a result of how effective this ingredient is.

These can be purchased over the counter if you need a stronger form then it most be prescribed by a doctor or dermatologist. Normally when starting out the cover the counter form is recommended.

Chemical exfoliants should be used with caution so always follow the recommended usage on the product label. Never over use the product, If you notice any negative effects, you should stop  using the product immediately.

Preventing dark spots

The greatest solution is to avoid skin injury in the first place. Even if you already have spots, taking care to protect your skin will keep them from getting worse.

"When it comes to fading black spots, strict sun protection is essential, remember if you don't protect the skin the spots can return and will be harder to remove.
